Devils sign Jon Merrill to entry-level deal, will play in Albany

The New Jersey Devils announced on Wednesday that they have signed defenseman Jon Merrill to a three-year entry-level contract that begins next season. Merrill left the University of Michigan to sign this deal. In addition, Merrill signed an amateur tryout contract with the Albany Devils and will play the rest of the season in the AHL. This will be his first taste of professional hockey as he opted to stay in Michigan last season for this junior year. Merrill was drafted by New Jersey in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, 38th overall.
