Anti-spam company target of largest-ever cyber attack

The largest reported cyber attack in the Internet's history is still underway, and an anti-spam company is its target. The Spamhaus Project, a London non-profit that maintains lists of known spammers, has found itself in the sights of cyber criminals that are abusing one of the Internet's core technologies. Using a technique known as DNS amplification, hackers have tricked public DNS servers into sending traffic at their intended targets. With enough of these DNS servers are fooled, the traffic can be staggering. In this case, more than 30,000 such servers were involved in the attack.
